Hopson Shines bright at USA Festival!!

Ballerz 17u star guard Scotty Hopson has been showing the nation his vast abilities this past week at the USA Festival in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 6'6 guard was selected as one of just 32 players nationwide for the elite event, and has re-established himself as one of the top guards in the nation with his stellar play, scoring from all over the court. Scotty averaged 22.4 ppg throughout the weekend, and proved yet again that he is one of the elite players Nationally.

Here are a few excerpts about Scotty from various recruiting sites that were covering the event:

No. 6 Scotty Hopson, SF
Stats:
22.4 points (5), 5.6 rebounds (12), 2 assists, 1.6 turnovers, 61 percent from field (3), 44 percent from three (2)

A strong argument can be made for Scotty Hopson being a top five performer and also top five prospect at the event. One of the more athletic players in the 2008 class, Hopson is in the mold of Demar Derozan. Hopson combines a beautiful three-point shot and an automatic high-rising floater going to his right with his top-shelf athleticism.

Hopson gradually improved with every game at the event and certainly helped his stock more than any player in Colorado Springs. His play during the high school season and spring has been spotty, and thus a drop in the rankings. But after what we saw this past week, Hopson is headed back up the rankings as a legitimate NBA shooting guard

sScotty Hopson, SF – Known to be a tad inconsistent at times, Hopson showed up all week in Colorado Springs. Maybe he’s over the hump, because not many people could contain the Hopkinsville (Ky.) University Heights standout. This 6-foot-6 wiry wing can really make things happen off the dribble and loves to shoot the one-hand floaters in the lane. His improved jump shot was showcased in the championship game too, as he hit a number of pull-up J’s. If performances like this continue Hopson should be a strong candidate for the McDonald’s All-American game. He finished with a game high 35 points (15 of 24) and 7 rebounds.

Scotty Hopson,
SF – The Blue squad, nonetheless, ran out to a 55-47 halftime lead behind the strong play of Scotty Hopson and Jrue Holiday.... Hopson, who improved his stock more than any prospect at the event, scored 35 points in the game to match Ebanks. Scoring on three-pointers and a plethora of floaters, Hopson went 15-24 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds.

Scotty Hopson, SF – The Kentucky native turned it up a notch today. Coming off a solid performance this morning, the Hopkinsville (Ky.) University Heights standout attacked the basket and dropped in floaters from every angle. He also drilled a trio of threes, as he finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds.

Scotty Hopson, SF – There’s no doubt that Hopson has a ton of talent wrapped into his 6-foot-6 frame. The Mississippi State commit is athletic as they come and has showed an improved jump shot this weekend. One of the best plays of the day was his backwards dunk on Deshawn Painter. He finished with 19 points on 9 of 15 shooting in the morning contest.

ssScotty Hopson, SF – Hopson is known as a big time athlete, but the 6-foot-6 wing has so much more in his game. In the evening session he drained a pair of three-pointers off the dribble and one off the catch. He also hit a sweet floater and a mid-range pull up on his way to 20 points off 9 of 14 shooting.

Scotty Hopson played a strong game for the Blue squad, scoring 19 points on 9-15 shooting. Hopson's athleticism and ability to score the ball have been quite impressive.

Scotty Hopson- 20 points on 9-14 shooting, 2-5 from three, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, zero turnovers in 24 minutes... Speaking of quick and explosive off the floor, Hopson has been just that. He looks great in transition and when he is attacking the basket off the bounce. His defense and intensity on the boards needs work.

Scotty Hopson was also a pivotal player for the winning team, scoring 22 points to go along with nine rebounds.
