Notes:
A 2007 AAU State Championship highlights a very strong season so far for the Midstate Ballerz Blue 16s, who are sitting at a program high 28 wins on the year. The Ballerz have played a brutal schedule thus far, playing 4 of the top 8 teams in the Nation (www.breakdownmagazine.com) in addition to a high number of 17u teams, yet have risen to the occasion with big win after big win, along the way earning the #1 overall seed for the 16u AAU Nationals.
Leading the way for the Ballerz has been the sweet shooting 6'2 G Skylar McBee (Rutledge), who has established himself as a top 10 player in the State. McBee, arguably the top shooter in the State, is a tough, hard nosed G that can put the ball on the floor and get to the hole in addition to his shooting prowess. 6'4 wing Derrick Walker (Covington) and 6'6 PF Sam Watson (Farragut) have followed McBee in the scoring column all year long, in addition to being the top 2 rebounders. Walker is an athletic slasher who can get to the hoop off the dribble in addition to posting up, and Watson is a strong, physical forward that can knock down the outside shot as well.
A trio of guards who have all started at least part of the season have been truly outstanding. 6'3 combo G Trey Carothers (Harpeth) is an outstanding athlete that can run the point or the 2. Trey simply does it all on the floor, from attacking the basket to rebounding to defending any position on the floor. 5'10 rising soph PG Jay Murphy (Bolivar) has quickly established himself as a top 10 player in the state in the Class of 2010. Jay is an ultra-quick point that can score and distribute. A player that has improved as much as any in the state as the year has gone on is 5'11 G D'Alvin Brown (Covington). D'Alvin, a pure shooter, has added so much to his game by getting to the rim off the bounce and hitting the boards, in addition to becoming one of the top perimeter defenders in the State. Three wings with tremendous upside have also been staples all year long for the 16s' success. 6'4 wing Nathan Parker (Bearden) continues to improve at a high rate and is now recieving D-1 looks. Nathan is a long, athletic wing with a great skill set and an even bigger upside. Another Ballerz wing with a huge upside is 6'5 Charles Taylor (Humbolt). Charles is very athletic and has a great body to go along with great range. But no player symbolizes what Ballerz basketball is all about as much as 6'2 wing Terrance Williams (Brighton). Terrance is a tireless worker who has played 4 different positions for the 16s, and leads the state in floor burns! In addition, Terrance possesses one of the most deadly mid range jumpers in the State. Others that have made an impact up to this point in the season include Dominique Roe (Portland), Jamal Lundy (Austin-East), Courtney Dalcourt (Franklin-Simpson), Jim Murphree (Franklin-Simpson), CJ Crittendon (Dyer Co), and Rex Pierce (Dyersburg)...
But the story of the Ballerz 16s season has now been the addition of 6 newcomers to the Ballerz family within the past few weeks. 6'1 PG Jordan Rorex (Anderson Co) has jumped right in and is currently the team's second leading scorer. Jordan has established himself as one of the top 2009 PG's in the state. 6'9 PF Demonte Simpson (Bearden) has been a perfect fit in the frontcourt, and will be one of the most sought after players in the state by the time we finish our July schedule. 6'5 wing Chase Jones (Austin-East) and twin brother Chance Jones have greatly upgraded the team's athleticism. Chase is a big time mid major prospect on the wing. 6'5 shooter Dustin Craig (Bearden) is another D-1 player on a roster now littered with D-1 talent. Dustin is a pure shooter with great size and length on the perimeter. And the greenest of all the newcomers is 6'4 wing Gabriel Campbell (Bearden), an athletic and physical wing.
