Ballerz South shine in Mississippi against Nation's best!!
Ballerz South and North, as well as 15s, shine in King of South!!
16s West and Central both qualify for State!!
The Midstate Ballerz South 17u roster ventured, well, south for the second weekend of the April Evaluation period for the 1st year of the Big Shots Mississippi event, held at Mississippi State University. And the Ballerz quickly became the talk of the tourney! The Ballerz first knocked off the talented Florida Ambassadors, then defeated a tall and talented Carolina Cobras team in the round of 32. The sweet 16 brought a much hyped matchup with the highly touted Nike Miami Tropics in front of around 70 division 1 coaches. The Ballerz clicked on all cylanders, and came away with a resounding 20 point win! In the Elite 8 the Ballerz knocked off friendly rival Birmingham Ice by 11, before falling to the tall and athletic prep school loaded team Brandon Bass Elite (LA) by 4. Great run by the Ballerz as their roster is now being recruited heavily by a plethora of Division 1 coaches. The entire roster played well with almost even scoring as G Skylar McBee, G Davell Lloyd, Wing Nathan Parker, Wing Deshun Carter, F Chase Jones, F Charles Taylor, G Chance Jones, F Sam Watson, and PG's CJ Crittendon and Deonte Alexander all stepped up HUGE throughout the weekend!!
But Mississippi was not the only stop for the Ballerz 17s this past weekend. The Ballerz North 17s and Ballerz East 17s both played well at the prestigious King of the South held at Austin Peay in Clarksville! Both teams played well in tough schedules, highlighted by a resounding Ballerz East win over a talented Memphis Trotters team, and a Ballerz North win over pool winner Atlanta Select!! 6'3 G Trey Carothers continues to be truly outstanding this spring, and absolutely dominated the field at King of the South! Carothers, who now has a hadnful of Division 1 offers, is playing his way up to Conference USA, if not higher, scholarship! 6'0 G Lashun Banks and 6'5 G Tevin Crayton was also outstanding for the East, who were missing 2 key starters. For the Ballerz North, 6'3 G Jamarius Alderson shined the brightest in his first tourney action! 6'3 Wing Terrance Williams, 6'4 F Derrick Walker, and 6'4 Wing Tony Hazard were also key for the Ballerz North...
The Ballerz 15s also played some outstanding ball at the King of the South, highlighted by a great 17 point win over a talented Charlotte Court (KY) squad. Liberty Tech G Ryan Yates continues his outstanding play as one of the top sleepers in the 2011 class. 6'1 G Jacob Lloyd also played great ball in his first tourney with the 15s. Jacob also splits time with the 16s. 6'2 wing Roger Huntley (Kenwood) and 6'0 guard Dexter Moore (Covington) also had an oustanding tourney, which ended with a close 7 point loss to nationally ranked, and eventual champs, Atlanta Celtics...
Both 16u rosters were also in action this weekend, both playing in the Central AAU substate, meaning that all 6 Ballerz rosters were in action. Both 16s, the Ballerz West and Ballerz Central played outstanding ball and both qualified for the 16u State Tournament, though both were missing numerous players; each roster competed with just 6 players. 6'4 wing Tarius Johnson, 6'2 PG/wing Demarius Smith, and 6'4 G Thomas Greer led the way for the Ballerz West, while 6'0 G Darian Rudolph (Clarksville NE) led the entire tourney in scoring and paved the way for the Ballerz Central. 6'0 sharpshooter EJ Perry (Westmoreland) and 5'11 G Tyler Smith (Union Co) were also outstanding for the Ballerz Central. Perry shot 60% from threes for the weekend, and hit 7 in one game!!
